WHEREAS
Florida Statute 413.08(1)a states: “the blind, deaf, and physically disabled are entitled to full and equal access...in any place the general public is invited”; and
WHEREAS
Florida Statute 413.08(2) states: “Any Person, firm, or corporation, the the agent of any firm or corporation who denies or interferes eith the full and equal access of any blind, deaf, or physically disabled person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree”; and
WHEREAS
the florida Criminal Law and Motor Vehicle Handbook, published by Gould’s Legal Publications, is a compilation of Florida Statutes, which many police officers in the state use as a reference when enforcing State laws; and
WHEREAS
some police agencies publish their own versions of the handbook; and
WHEREAS
the above mentioned Statutes are not contained in any of these handbooks; and
WHEREAS
this absence has often further compromised blind individuals’ access to public places: Now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED
by The National Federation of the Blind of Florida, in convention assembled, this third day of September, 2000, in the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that this organization petition Gould’s Legal Publications to include this statute in all further editions of the Florida Criminal Law and Motor Vehicle Handbook; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that this organization petition all departments whtich independently publish their own handbooks to include this Statute in all futhre editions of their handbooks, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that each chapter of this orgnaization request the law enforcement departments in our areas to print a sufficient number of supplements to be included in their existing handbooks.
